HEALTH AND MYTHS

-BEN JOSE

HI
,IT'S ME BEN JOSE.WELCOME TO ANOTHER BLOG OF AURORIANS.I AM VERY HAPPY AND EXCITED TO INFORM YOU ALL THAT WE GOT SOME NEW AUTHORS FOR THIS BLOG AND THEY ALSO WILL SHARE MORE BLOGS AND INFORMATIONS ON DIFFERENT ASPECTS AND SUBJECT WHICH WILL BE MORE USEFUL IN OUR DAILY LIFE.

AND LETS GET BEGIN WITH OUR TOPIC.TODAY WE WILL BE DISCUSSING SOME MYTHS THAT ARE PREVAILING IN OUR SOCIETY.

1.BLUISH BLOOD?

If you’ve ever glanced at the thin veins on your wrist, you could be forgiven for thinking that the blood within them is blue. We are taught this from an early age: deoxygenated blood is blue, and once the lungs have furnished it with oxygen, it is red.
However, when we cut ourselves, the blood is always red. This, we have been told, is because the blood is oxygenated as soon as it touches the air.

espite the way things appear, none of the above is true. Blood is never blue. When it is deoxygenated, it is a deep shade of red, and, once oxygenated, it is cherry red.
So why do the veins look blue? It’s actually a rather complex answer that involves at least four factors:
  1. The way in which the skin scatters and absorbs light is complicated. Because the skin is made of numerous compounds with a variety of optical properties, the way that light travels through it, or bounces off it, is difficult to predict.
  2. Blood’s oxygenation state affects the way that light is absorbed. When it is deoxygenated, its absorption coefficient is altered.
  3. The depth and diameter of the blood vessels has an effect. For instance, smaller vessels near to the surface appear red, whereas a larger vessel, at the same depth, will look bluer.

2. DRINK 8 GLASS OF WATER DAILY

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are unambiguous in this matter, stating that “drinking enough water every day is good for overall health.
The question is, how much water is “enough?” The CDC note that there are no guidelines on how much water we should be drinking daily.
But, they do link to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, who say that women require 2.7 liters and men require 3.7 liters of “total water” per day.
The total water point is crucial; this refers to not how many liters of water you should drink from the faucet, but about what your rough intake of water from different drinks and foods combined should be.
It is vital to note that the average person’s total intake of water from drinks — including caffeinated drinks — forms about 80 percent of their total water intake, with the remaining 20 percent actually coming from foods.

3.CRACKING JOINTS LEADS TO ARTHRITIS

Cracking your joints does not cause arthritis. But if, like me, you are an inveterate knuckle-cracker, you have almost certainly been admonished at some point in your life by a possibly well-meaning (but more likely annoyed) teacher, colleague, or loved one with the words, “Don’t do that! You’ll give yourself arthritis!
They generally report that individuals who crack their joints are at nearly the same risk of getting arthritis as those who have never cracked their joints. So, no, cracking your knuckles will not increase your risk of arthritis.
If you are worried about what happens in your joints when you hear that sound, you may be reassured by the findings of a 2018 study.
When we crack our knuckles, the researchers explain, we are slightly pulling apart our joints, which causes pressure to decrease in the synovial fluid that lubricates the joints. When this happens, bubbles form in the fluid.
The variations in pressure causes the bubbles to rapidly fluctuate, which creates that characteristic cracking sound, which is oh-so-pleasing to the cracker but often less so for the people around them.

4.APPLY ICE ON BURNS

Research shows that applying ice cubes to minor scalds can actually do more harm than good. This is because extremely cold temperatures (like frozen water) can have a frostbite-type effect that damages the surface of the skin.
You should also avoid greasy home remedies like butter or mayonnaise as they can trap heat, which means the skin continues to burn.
On a burned area, it would be best to use running cool (tap) water. Take some pain relief medication, and apply an antibiotic ointment and loose gauze to protect the area from germs.

5.PEEL FRUITS AND VEGIES

DON'T ASK FOR BANANA AND COCONUT..!!!

The skin on fruit and vegetables like potatoes, apples, carrots and citrus fruits are packed with beneficial nutrients. An apple with skin, for example, contains up to 332% more vitamin K, 142% more vitamin A, 115% more vitamin C and 20% more calcium than a peeled apple. Meanwhile, a boiled potato with skin has up to 175% more vitamin C than a peeled potato.
Another added advantage is that the skins of fruits and veggies are high in fibre and can help you feel fuller for longer, which is beneficial for weight loss. There is also growing evidence showing that adequate fibre intake may benefit your digestion, improve blood glucose and cholesterol control.
If you peel the skins, you are actually cutting out all these essential nutrients! So skip the extra hassle, don’t let your peels go to waste.
